Recruiting: Gathering of Outlaws Alumni, Part I

Every year, the management of the Alcatraz Outlaws sponsors an Alumni game. Former Outlaws, back from college, confront the current crop of Outlaws in a friendly. It's a great opportunity for the college guys to see their former teammates and get caught up. The Outlaws management always provides terrific food to players, parents, and assorted fans!

It's also an opportunity for parents of former Outlaws to get to visit once again. That's a really important thing for parents, who used to see each other all the time when the games were thirty miles, or less, apart. Now, arranging parent get togethers, with the boys all scattered along the East Coast and Midwest is often impossible. So, the gathering of Outlaws is just as important to the parents as it is to the boys.

This year's Alumni game drew great players and a great crowd. Here are a few pictures of this past Saturday's get together:

Uncommon for now....

A feed from one California guy to another California guy for the finish. Bang,bang...assist and goal. That's an uncommon occurrence in NCAA DI lacrosse. But not for long at the pace our guys are getting recruited.

More and more, California guys aren't lone rangers when they go back East. Next year, for example, it will be Jack McCormack of DLS and Wiley Osborne of Menlo School heading off to Dartmouth. Middie Mike Hernandez of Piedmont and Attack Brendan Gaughan of La Costa Canyon are Frosh who are both attending Michigan. At Penn State, Two Freshmen from the same school have enrolled at Happy Valley. Close D Jordan LaTendresse and M Jordan Weiss, both from San Ramon Valley, will be playing for Coach Tambroni!  At Notre Dame, former SI Attack, Bobby Gray, joins former Corona Del Mar standout Attack, Ryan Mix. This year's Yale Freshman class has another pair of SI/CDM guys – JW McGovern, an Attack from St. Ignatius and Mike Keasey, a Middie from Corona Del Mar.

Here, Yale takes on UMass in a Fall Ball game. Both Yale and UMass made the NCAA tournament last season and new guys are always competing for playing time. In this video from LAX.com, #10 Keasey brings the ball up the field and spots #4 McGovern sneaking around the crease from X. Feed and finish in the blink of an eye! From 3:16 to 3:24 in the vid.




By the way, the same thing is happening at top NCAA DIII programs. We've got former Foothill Goalie Patrick Shevelson and former SI Middie Phil Aliman who headed off to Kenyon this Fall where they'll join Phil's older brother Nick. Similarly, Close D Matt Corbin of De La Salle joins D Somer Stein of Marin Academy and A Jack Bodine of St. Ignatius at Haverford. It's absolutely explosive growth, folks, and you're watching it happen!

3D Denver Shootout report

Here are some excerpts about NorCal laxers from Inside Lacrosse write-ups on the Denver Team Camp:


Class of 2014
Joe Rodriguez, Attack, Team NorCal Elite (Bellarmine Prep, Cali.) – Fast, aggressive and working well from X, this kid stood out as a quarterback-type attackman who was the best creator from the attack position on his team, and then went on to look solid the All-Star game. A righty with nice vision, good feeding abilities, athleticism 
and able to go right and left, he’s another Cali kid to watch.


Class of 2013
Eric Stagg, Midfield, Team NorCal Elite (Canyon Crest, Calif.) - A prototypical future Division I midfielder, Stagg's got all the tools to excel at the next level of play. Tall (estimating about 6-2), athletic, and a strong dodger, showing some great speed down the lanes, Stagg is an example of the players coming out of the West these days, especially, California. He's also got a nice long-range shot, scoring on a big righty blast in the All-Star contest. He drew top long-stick middies throughout the first couple of days, and really looks the part of and plays like a 
Division I midfielder.


Class of 2012
Mike Hernandez, Midfield, Brady’s Bunch (2012/Michigan) - A tall (6-3), strong, fast midfielder, Mike Hernandez turned a lot of heads throughout the weekend, but broke a lot of hearts, too, when coaches learned he was already committed to Michigan. He had a tough game against Claremont, as the Canadians devoted lots of attention to him when he was on the field after scoring with ease at first. But the Michigan-bound California native is one to watch. Dodging from up top, he’s got a tremendous face-dodge and can finish down the lane with a hard, accurate shot. A real athlete from the midfield.

Northern California Chapter of US Lacrosse Names Boy’s High School All Americans

SAN FRANCISCO – After a rigorous evaluation process, fifteen Bay Area high school lacrosse players have been named as US Lacrosse High School All-Americans. Players, who are nominated by their coaches and supported by their respective leagues, were voted on by a committee of Northern California lacrosse coaches and league representatives that included one representative from each League in Northern California and the NCJLA.

Fifty graduating Seniors from the Western United States have been named to the Adrenaline All-American game on June 2nd, 2012 at  Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA. Divided into two squads of twenty-five, the North team includes six players from NorCal. They are:

Michael Hernandez M Piedmont Michigan

JW McGovern A St. Ignatius Yale

Will McKee M/FO St. Ignatius Lehigh

Michael Tagliaferri M San Ramon North Carolina

The complete list of invited players was sent out this afternoon. Each player will receive Maverik gloves, a Cascade Helment with a custom All-American Head Wrap and Adrenaline Movment will be outfitting each All-American with custom uniforms and apparel packages. GameTime Footage, the offical game film and highlight provider of Adrenaline, will be providing each player with a free copy of the game and the Adrenaline All-American MVP will be awarded a free highlight reel of his performance.


I know that graduation day for the SI players occurs on June 2nd, so that's a conflict for the three of them. I do not know how they will resolve it. In any event, these six are all wonderful players and Adrenaline is, in my opinion, on the money in naming them to their Western All-American team!. Congrats to all these players!
