College: John Glesener on 2013 Tewaaraton list

John Glesener - Army Lacrosse

Army's John Glesener was named to the 2013 Tewaaraton list. He had been named on earlier Tewaaraton "watch lists," but this is the list from which the 10 finalists and the ultimate award winner will be chosen.

Being one of only 25 players on the list is quite an honor. But consider this: John is one of only 2 Sophomores on the list and is the only Californian. Puts smiles on the faces of the Scorpions Youth teams and the De La Salle Spartans – and all NorCal lacrosse fans, I suspect!

College: John Glesener is at it again

John Glesener

I've come to realize that only folks who've been following NorCal lacrosse for a long time have heard of John Glesener. That's a pity. John played for the Scorpions Youth program and spent his Freshman year at De La Salle. He then moved to New York and attended West Genesee High School - the most storied lacrosse program in the United States.

I watched him play Box Lacrosse at the Bladium in Alameda and on the field for the Scorpions and at De La Salle. He is, arguably, the top lacrosse lacrosse player in NorCal history. Certainly among the top five, which – in addition to John – would include Parker Brown, Roy Lang, and Rob Emery and Michael Tagliaferri.

I've written about John's big games in the past. Yesterday, he went off again. Five goals and an assist against Colgate! His season stats, through nine games, are 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points. Both John and Rob Emery are on the Teewaaraton Watch list and, for the moment, John is having the better year. The Black Knights are 8-3 and John is a big reason for that success.

If you are a fan of NorCal lacrosse, keep an eye on John Glesener! He is a freak of nature – and a nice guy to boot.

College: John Glesener garners 2nd hat trick in a row

John Glesener

John Glesener, former hotshot Scorpion and Frosh at De La Salle – now a standout for the Army Black Knights – had a hat trick against Rutgers last week and duplicated that feat yesterday vs. Lehigh. After seven games, he leads the Black Knights in assists (14) and points (28) and is second in goals (14). Terrific performance this season by John. No wonder he's on the Tewaaraton Award Watch list! Methinks he's an All-American this year.

NCAA Player Impact Ratings

In an earlier post, I covered a mathematical system, developed by Dr. Martin Feldman, for assessing the impact lacrosse players have on the game. My earlier post can be seen here.

In this post, I list the NorCal NCAA players in DI and DII who performed in the top bracket created by Dr. Feldman, the author of "Player Impact Ratings". To make Dr. Feldman's list, DI players had to participate in at least ten games. Players whose Impact Rating number would have made this list, but who did not participate in ten games are not included. To give just one example, Giancarlo Sangiacomo's Impact Rating would easily have made the top defender list, but he did not play in the requisite ten games.

NCAA DI:
Attack: Parker Brown (Brown), Alex Capretta (Princeton), Billy Mattimore (Bucknell)
Midfield: Rob Emery (UVA), Roy Lang (Cornell), John Glesener (Army)*
Defense: none in top 200
Goalie: none in top 200

NCAA DII:
Attack: Austin Pridham (Colo. Mesa), Casey Hock (Queens), Gabe Garcia (Colo. Mesa)
Midfield: none in top 200
Defense: Brian Raaka (Dominican U)
Goalie: none in top 40

NCAA DIII:
Attack: Jack Bodine Haverford)
Midfield: Nick Alimam (Kenyon), David Lee (Williams)
Defense: none in top group
Goalie: Nick Massa Kenyon

You can find the rankings for all NCAA players whose complete stats were reported by the respective colleges here.

Taking all positions into account, NorCal's highest rated NCAA DI Impact Player was Parker Brown of Brown University. For NCAA DII, Brian Raaka of Dominican University was NorCal's highest rated Impact Player, and for NCAA DIII, Nick Aliman of Kenyon College.

Congrats to the players who repped NorCal Lacrosse so well!
