Summer recruiting camp news

Inside Lacrosse on Joe Lang at Jake Reed:
Another guy to watch with a high upside is Joe Lang (St. Ignatius Prep, Calif.), the younger brother of former Cornell standout, Roy. He's effective in 'catch and shoot' situations but is still working on his success rate on
the run. Pretty special end-to-end player.

Inside Lacrosse on Peter Tagliaferri at Jake Reed:
California native Peter Tagliaferri (San Ramon Valley, Calif.) is also a raw athlete, but can face-off and plays scrappy otherwise.

King of the Hill: Outlaws are 10-2

In the first event of their whirlwind tour of the East Coast, both the Outlaws 2013s and the Outlaw 2014s finished with 5-1 records. As a club, the Outlaws were 10-2 at King of the Hill! The 2014s finished 3rd in their age group.

The 2014 team finished in third place after a dominating win over arch-nemesis Laxachusetts. Last year the Outlaws had a single combined team. It lost only two games, one at King of the Hill and the other at the Gait Cup. Both losses were to Laxachusetts. Nice to see the 2014s get a little revenge!

The boys are now off to the Gait Cup. Good luck, fellas!

2 NorCal laxers make Academic All Ivy-League

Parker Brown and Roy Lang were named to the Ivy League's All-Academic team yesterday. Most of us know these two for their amazing Lacrosse exploits, but it is a significant accomplishment to be stellar academically while playing a NCAA DI sport. In addition, these two players have been named to All-Ivy Lacrosse teams for their on-field performance. To me, these guys epitomize the scholar-athletes that the Ivy league seeks.  A sound mind in a sound body is the way this dualityt is sometimes put. I believe these two are role models for all NorCal players and I feel lucky to have watched them play! Thank you for setting such a high standard to which younger laxers can aspire.

US U19 team whips LI All Stars 12-4: Mike Tagliaferri stars

The United States U19 team that will compete in Finland this summer, took on a Long Island All-Star team and defeated them 12-4. US Lacrosse magazine covered the event and had many nice things to say about Michael Tagliaferri, who scored two goals in the game.

Money quote: "...the U19 teams reaction to Tagliaferri's second goal, a rocket from in front of the cage, was familiar in any language: A team-wide whoop of awe."

St. Ignatius makes top 25 in the nation

LaxPower's final rankings have been released and the St. Ignatius Wildcats have, once again, been named one of the Top 25 teams in the nation. They placed #25 in the Computer ranking and also were #25 in the Combined Coaches and Computer ranking. Only two other Western teams made the top 25. They are Arapahoe, CO and La Costa Canyon, CA who were 19th and 24th respectively.

Congrats to SI, its coaches, and its players. The Wildcats had a fine season at 21-1, defeating a number of powerhouse teams along the way!

This year, there were 3,366 Boy's High School Lacrosse teams in the United States. That translates into  St. Ignatius being ahead of 99.25% of all the teams in the country!

This is not the first time St. Ignatius has been a top 25 team in the country. Over the last six years St. Ignatius has been ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation on three occasions. No other HS program outside the East Coast has achieved such heights. Congrats to the Wildcats on this year's achievements and on their sustained excellence as a lacrosse program.

3D Denver Shootout report

Here are some excerpts about NorCal laxers from Inside Lacrosse write-ups on the Denver Team Camp:

Class of 2014
Joe Rodriguez, Attack, Team NorCal Elite (Bellarmine Prep, Cali.) – Fast, aggressive and working well from X, this kid stood out as a quarterback-type attackman who was the best creator from the attack position on his team, and then went on to look solid the All-Star game. A righty with nice vision, good feeding abilities, athleticism
and able to go right and left, he’s another Cali kid to watch.

Class of 2013
Eric Stagg, Midfield, Team NorCal Elite (Canyon Crest, Calif.) - A prototypical future Division I midfielder, Stagg's got all the tools to excel at the next level of play. Tall (estimating about 6-2), athletic, and a strong dodger, showing some great speed down the lanes, Stagg is an example of the players coming out of the West these days, especially, California. He's also got a nice long-range shot, scoring on a big righty blast in the All-Star contest. He drew top long-stick middies throughout the first couple of days, and really looks the part of and plays like a
Division I midfielder.

Class of 2012
Mike Hernandez, Midfield, Brady’s Bunch (2012/Michigan) - A tall (6-3), strong, fast midfielder, Mike Hernandez turned a lot of heads throughout the weekend, but broke a lot of hearts, too, when coaches learned he was already committed to Michigan. He had a tough game against Claremont, as the Canadians devoted lots of attention to him when he was on the field after scoring with ease at first. But the Michigan-bound California native is one to watch. Dodging from up top, he’s got a tremendous face-dodge and can finish down the lane with a hard, accurate shot. A real athlete from the midfield.

U13 AllStar selections:
Graham Blake Attack 3D California
Ryan Emerson Attack 3D California

2013 AllStar selections:
Max Kreig M NorCal
Eric Stagg M NorCal

2014 AllStar selections:
Joe Rodriques A NorCal
Henry Armistead M NorCal

Congrats to the guys for the great performances!

Chris Packard – US Lacrosse NorCal Chapter Coach of the Year

Chris Packard

The Northern California Chapter of US Lacrosse named Chris Packard of St. Ignatius, "Coach of the Year." He has been the Head Coach at St. Ignatius College Prep since the 2009 season and was an Assistant Coach prior to that. During his tenure as Head Coach, his overall W-L record is 81-7, a winning percentage of over 92%.

As a college player, Coach Packard played for Cornell, where he captained the team his Senior year. Beyond his experience as a player and his record as a Head Coach, he is an inspirational coach, a fiery leader, and engenders the deep affection of his players.

Being named the NorCal Chapter's Coach of the Year is a most deserved honor.

First West Coast Laxer wins Tewaaraton

Peter Baum

Peter Baum, 1st team NCAA DI AA and winner of the Enners award for the most outstanding NCAA DI player, has been awarded the Tewaaraton trophy, as well. Peter played for Lincoln High School in Oregon. I first saw him play at the Jerry Langkammerer Invitational at Saint Ignatius in 2008. He was spectacular even then.

The times, they are a'changin! First, we have two NorCal guys make the NCAA DI AA teams and now the first ever Tewaaraton winner from West of the Mississippi!

Adrenaline AA game results and Gear Pix

A Dad who attended was nice enough to take this picture of both North and South squads together. The NorCal boys all played on the North squad in the dark Jerseys. The South team prevailed, 17-11. Click on images to get a larger view.

I hear Will McKee had a terrific game – 2G and 3A. JW McGovern dressed, but did not play due to the broken hand he suffered in the Foothill – Orange County game. I'll try and get a report on Chad Cohan's highlights, later today.
The Adrenaline All-American game is famous for its flamboyant gear that is given to participants. Arguably, the best gear in the country! Here are some helmet shots:
